Local Involvement Networks are set to be changed to local HealthWatch in 2012. To prepare for this Westminster LINk has set up a Shaping HealthWatch work group to help make sure we are ready for the change.
The group includes LINk members, local GPs and representatives of Westminster City Council.

HealthWatch Consultations
Healthwatch England membership consultation
Stakeholders and the public are being asked to contribute to the development of the Healthwatch England membership regulations.
Healthwatch England will be a national consumer champion that enables the collective views of the people who use health and social care services to influence national policy, advice and guidance.
This consultation asks questions on the key issues in relation to the membership of Healthwatch England that the Department has heard from stakeholders.
These issues are:

the number of the members
-
suitability for membership
-
the process for appointing members
-
the period of time a member should be appointed.

Consultation on Allocation Options for distribution of additional funding to local authorities for: Local HealthWatch, NHS Complaints Advocacy, PCT Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Subject to the passage of the Health and Social Care Bill, the Department (DH) will allocate funding for Local HealthWatch, NHS Complaints Advocacy and, potentially, PCT Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards from October 2012. This additional funding will be added to the current DH Learning Disabilities and Health Reform grant. This consultation is asking for your views on options for distributing the new funding for Local HealthWatch, NHS Complaints Advocacy and PCT Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS).

NALM Creating HealthWatch Conference September 2011
The National Association of LINk Members (NALM) recently held a Creating HealthWatch conference in London. Key speakers included Cynthia Bower Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission; Joan Saddler, National Director of Patient and Public Affairs at the Department of Health and David Behan who is Director General of Social Care at the Local Government and Care Partnership.

National conference PALS, Complaints and Local HealthWatch November 2011
This conference looked at the future of PALS across England after NHS reforms and how the Service could work with HealthWatch when it comes into being in October 2012. Presentations covered how the PALS service will change, how NHS Complaints will be reformed and where HealthWatch fits in.
