Best foot forward

Changes are also being proposed to podiatry (foot care) services and a consultation leaflet is being sent to all podiatry patients in Westminster and to everyone else who is aged over 65. For details of the consultation go to NHS Westminster’s website or call PALS for a leaflet on 0800 587 8818.  Two drop-in sessions have also been planned at:

-The Tate Room, South Westminster Centre for Health, Vincent Square, London SW1 on Monday 23 March 2009 from 1pm to 4pm, and

-The Stowe (HATS), 260 Harrow Road, W2 5ES on Wednesday 25 March 2009 from 1pm to 4pm.

Polyclinic Update

NHS Westminster is consulting on its proposed first community health hub or ‘polyclinic’ for South Westminster and is holding an information roadshow on Friday, March 20 at the Abbey Centre from 11am to 7pm.

Be Advised...

National charity Counsel and Care has created an information and advice service for Westminster’s older people and their families.

AdviceTrained advisers will be on hand to discuss people’s options and give information relevant to their particular situation.

Minority Report

The BME (Black and Ethnic Minority) Health Forum for Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster has been awarded funding to implement the “Good Practices for Access and Well-being” Programme. This work consists of two phases:

1. Commissioning and co-ordinating six community-based projects aimed to improve access to primary care services for people from local BME  communities

2. Working with four GP and two dental practices to improve these structures and pilot new mechanisms for obtaining feedback from BME patients/communities.

Palliative Care

1 in 6 people in the UK will die in a care home. The National Council for Palliative Care works to improve the care that people in these environments get.

The NCPC would like to hear from LINk members who have relevant personal experience because personal experiences of life-limiting conditions can help shape services in the future.

Reshaping Drug and Alcohol Services

Westminster Drug and Alcohol Action Team, which is responsible for commissioning treatment services, has proposed a number of changes to how support in this area is provided. You can give your views on these changes by filling in the online questionnaire at www.westminster.gov.uk/daatredesign  before 31 March.

Keeping Warm

Westminster Council is working with Osborne Energy to provide heating and insulation grants for people on means tested or disability benefits.

Parking Help

Westminster City Council has allocated over £25,000 worth of parking scratch cards to help unpaid carers pay for their parking from March 2009.

Cards designed for any carers in the city who care for Westminster residents, of any age, who receive disability benefits, mobility benefits or higher rate attendance allowance.

Service Users Quiz Minister

There is no stopping Westminster’s service users representatives.  Members of the Westminster Learning Disability Partnership Board were invited to the launch of a new learning disability strategy, “Valuing People Now”  This cross-government strategy sets out a vision to enable people with learning disability to have the same life chances and aspirations as other citizens and to be treated with the same dignity and respect.
